What is a french fishtail braid?

The main difference between a fishtail braid and a french fishtail braid lies in the technique used to create them.

Fishtail Braid – In a traditional fishtail braid, you divide the hair into two sections and take small pieces from the outer edges, crossing them over to the opposite side. The process is repeated, alternating sides, creating a distinctive pattern that resembles a fishtail.

French Fishtail Braid – A French fishtail braid, on the other hand, incorporates the French braiding technique. This involves adding small sections of hair to the braid as you weave it. Instead of crossing hair strands directly over each other, you pick up additional sections from the sides and add them to the braid as you go along. This creates a more intricate and textured look compared to a regular fishtail braid.

In summary, the French fishtail braid adds hair to the braid, while the traditional fishtail braid starts with all the hair, not needing to add any hair, which also makes it a bit easier to do.

Prep the hair

Before you begin braiding brush your hair through to get rid of any tangles, as tangled hair will make any braid 100 times harder to do!

If your hair is slippery, then use a grip powder/texturizing spray to give the hair more grip so it stays in place more easily!

Step-by-step guide
