How To Put Your Hair Up In A Claw Clip Hairstyle

Some trends should be left in the past, but the claw clip trend is one trend I’m happy to bring back! A claw clip hairstyle has been seen on many celebrities such as Kendal Jenner, Hailey Bieber, the Hadid sisters and so many more! Not to forget the OG – Rachel from friends!

When using a claw clip you can easily throw your hair up and out of your face, while still looking cute and put together!

This post is all about how you can put your hair into a claw clip!

Claw clip hairstyle

A claw clip hairstyle is such a great technique to know because when you know how you put your hair up, you can do it in 10 seconds and you don’t even have to look!

It’s a perfect hairstyle for those days when you are running late and just need your hair out of your face! And as a bonus, if you have multiple clips, you can match them to your outfit to look even more put together!

If you do a claw clip hairstyle and your hair is really slippery so your clip keeps sliding out, then try adding some styling powder to your hair before putting it up in a twist (This one is my favorite!). Simply add a little bit of powder to the ends of your hair and shake it through to get it all over the hair. Then when putting in the claw clip, the hair won’t be as slippery and the claw clip will grip onto the hair easier!

Which claw clip should you choose?

There are so many different styles of claw clips to choose from and the right one for you depends on a few things:

  1. Your hair length (long hair has to pass through the clip more times, so you need a bigger clip)
  2. The thickness of your hair (the thicker the hair, the bigger the clip)
  3. How you style your hair (how many times is the hair passing through the clip? 1,2,3 or more times? the more times the bigger the clip)

So to find the perfect clip for you, you maybe have to try out a few to figure out what works the best for your hair!

The claw clip I’m using is from H&M and I bought it in 2021, so I’m not sure if it’s still available, but if you can find it in a store, then differently give it a try. It´s good quality for the price and it hasn’t broken yet!

Claw clips for medium and thick hair:

If you have medium hair, probably most clips will work for you, depending on how many times you pass your hair through the clip. If you have really really thick/curly hair, you might need some strong hold clips, like the ones from Revlon (linked below).

Claw clips for thin hair/half up half downs:

If you have thinner/finer hair you don’t want to have a big clip, that will slide out of your hair because it’s too big to really grip onto the hair.

So a smaller claw clip will be the best option for you! A smaller claw clip is also perfect for a half up half down hairstyle, as you are styling less hair. You can get some amazing designs, such as flowers or butterflies, which looks so cute in the hair!

How To Use A Claw Clip In 5 Simple Steps

There are many ways to put your hair into a caw clip, but because this video is for beginners, I’m keeping it simple and is only showing 1 way of doing it, which is the way I find the easiest.

  1. Gather all your hair in a low ponytail
  2. Place your right pointy finger on the left side of the ponytail
  3. Hook your finger around the hair
  4. Pull the hair up while twisting it
  5. Take your claw clip and secure the twist

Check out the video below if those 5 steps made no sense at all!

This post is all about how you can create an easy and simple claw clip hairstyle in less than 2 minutes!
